總統蔡英文25日表示，只要在對等、尊嚴、沒有政治前提下，做為台灣總統，她很樂意，也有責任與對岸領導人坐下來，好好談一談，讓大陸國家主席習近平能夠更了解台灣的經濟、社會及各層面的發展，讓習在做許多政策、策略的判斷時，不要發生誤判或誤解的情況。

而這場兩岸人民關注的「蔡習會」，在近期內是否舉機會舉辦？蔡英文說，這是雙方需要持續努力的，台灣會不斷告訴對岸，對話與溝通是解決現在兩岸許多問題，最重要的一個方法，她也希望中國可以感受到，我們願意溝通與對話的誠意，也希望中國做為區域負責任的一份子，能感知自己也有責任，與台灣坐下來，好好溝通與對話。

蔡英文強調，她希望在總統任內，雙方能夠有機會坐下來談，相信美國總統川普和北韓領導人金正恩的見面，有很多啟發，美國和北韓兩個國家之間，在文化或很多層面上的差異頗大，立場上也有一段距離，但兩國都能夠在一個對等且互相尊重的情況下，在新加坡有坐下來見面的機會，對世人來講這是一個很好的、正面的發展，對處在對立，或者有潛在衝突的國家之間，也是一種激勵。
